Can we still tell stories differently? At Papaya New Directors we do believe so. In the previous nine editions of the competition, young creators proved it many times, surprising us with their sensitivity and daring attitudes to film language. This time, our longing for the art of filmmaking means we’re taking a step further. Members of the new generation of film directors who want to change the horizon of short forms, music videos and advertising spots will be invited to show off their true potential. They will be the ones to inspire the creative industry and become a part of it. And by connecting them with top brands, we’ll demonstrate how storytelling knows no limits.
During the 9 years of the competition, we’ve met over 12,000 young creators. They have shared treatments and implemented their ideas for over 50 top brands. Today, many of them are developing their talent further in the creative industry or pursuing directing.
In this edition, we’re changing the rules of the game a little. We’ll be recognizing those directors who consistently pursue their goals, developing their potential in short forms, music videos or branded content. From this pool, chosen creators will be asked to make films for our partners.
We are always seeking for new talents This doesn’t mean that we’re not going to notice new talent. We know that there are many of you still undiscovered – so send us by
this form your work (between 1 February and 31 August) and you’ll also be in with the chance of making films for our partners.
If we’re convinced by your work, you’ll be invited to create a treatment on a set topic. At this stage, you'll only be competing with two other creators. Based on these treatments, our partner will choose one director who gets to make the film. The Papaya Films production team will take care of the whole production process. All conditions, including your remuneration, will be discussed and agreed on with you before production kicks off.
All films made in 2023 qualify for the competition stage and will have a chance to compete for awards during the final gala in spring 2024.
